5 males drowned in a pool on the backside of a waterfall in Jawhar space of Palghar district of Maharashtra on Thursday afternoon, the police stated.

A gaggle of 13 individuals had gone to Kalmandvi waterfalls close to Jawhar city despite the lockdown, a neighborhood police official stated.

Two of them fell into the water whereas clicking selfies and a few others jumped in to rescue them. 5 of them drowned, he stated.

A staff of the Nationwide Catastrophe Response Pressure (NDRF) was rushed to the scene.

Our bodies had been despatched to a close-by hospital for post-mortem.

The victims had been recognized as Nimesh Patel (30), Jay Bhoir (21), Prathamesh Chavan (18), Devendra Wagh (24) and Devendra Faltankar (21).

Earlier, a neighborhood police official had stated that the victims, who had been then but to be recognized, had been “youngsters”.
