New Delhi:

The CBI has taken over investigations into the grotesque killing of a father-son duo after alleged torture by police personnel at Sathankulam Police Station in Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu, officers stated on Wednesday.

The CBI has dispatched a particular staff to conduct the probe wherein a number of Tamil Nadu Police personnel are below the scanner and a few have already been arrested by the state police, they stated.

“CBI has registered two circumstances on the allegations of custodial loss of life of two merchants in Kovilpatti district on the request of Tamil Nadu authorities and additional notification from the federal government of India,” CBI Spokesperson RK Gaur stated.

He stated the CBI has taken over the investigation of those circumstances, earlier registered as crime quantity 649 of 2020 and crime quantity 650 of 2020 at Police Station Kovilpatti East in Turicorin.

The staff can be in search of custody of the arrested accused, the sources stated.

Beniks and Jeyaraj died on June 22 and 23, respectively after alleged torture by Sathankulam Police following their arrest on June 19.

The CB-CID is presently dealing with the case as per the route of the Madurai Bench of the Madras Excessive Courtroom.

5 police personnel together with an inspector have been arrested thus far.
