China stated Friday it had revoked the license for the US consulate within the southwestern metropolis of Chengdu, in retaliation for the closure of China’s Houston consulate earlier this week.
The transfer is a “respectable and obligatory response to the unreasonable measures by america”, the overseas ministry stated in an announcement.
“The present state of affairs in China-US relations shouldn’t be what China needs to see, and the US is chargeable for all this,” the assertion stated.
Tensions have been escalating on a number of fronts between the world’s two largest economies, deteriorating additional after Washington ordered the closure of the Houston consulate on Tuesday inside 72 hours.
China had threatened to retaliate if the US didn’t withdraw its choice.
The Chengdu consulate was established in 1985, and has round 200 workers with roughly 150 regionally employed Chinese language workers, based on its web site.
