A crowd-funding initiative by nature lovers and native organisations has saved an over 100-year-old banyan tree close to Arambol seashore in North Goa, which had gotten uprooted as a consequence of heavy rain earlier this month.

Funds to the tune of round Rs 2 lakh had been collected and consultants had been roped in from Hyderabad for the replanting process.
Uday Krishna of Vata Basis helped re-root the tree, which was planted in a 3 to four-feet-deep gap, dug with the assistance of a JCB machine, Mr Miranda stated.
The 2-day operation was carried out on August 18, he stated, claiming that this was the primary time that a crowd-funding initiative was used to replant a tree.
