Three senior male wrestlers, together with world championship silver-medallist Deepak Punia, have examined constructive for COVID-19, the Sports activities Authority of India (SAI) stated on Thursday. Apart from the Olympic-bound Punia (86kg), the opposite two wrestlers who’ve examined constructive for the virus are Navin (65kg) and Krishan (125kg). All three are a part of a nationwide camp on the SAI Centre in Sonepat forward of which the wrestlers are in quarantine. “Three senior males’s wrestlers, who had reported to the National Wrestling Camp at SAI Centre in Sonepat, have examined constructive for COVID -19 virus,” the nodal sports activities physique stated in a press release.

Together with his silver on the worlds, Punia had secured a spot for himself on the Tokyo Olympics. They’ve been moved to a SAI empanelled hospital as a precautionary measure for additional monitoring.

All wrestlers had been examined, upon arrival, as per the SAI SOP for resumption of sports activities actions. As per protocol, all wrestlers together with the coaches and help employees underwent the necessary RT-PCR check to detect COVID-19 on arrival.

When contacted, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) stated they weren’t conscious of the event. All of the wrestlers assembled for the camp on September 1. Coaching will begin after they full a 14-day quarantine.
