The proprietor of a digital information channel has been arrested for allegedly blackmailing and extorting cash from an advocate in south Delhi’s Higher Kailash space, police stated on Thursday.

The accused has been recognized as Afsar Ali (37), a resident of Noida, they stated.

Police stated the advocate, a resident of Higher Kailash, filed a grievance the place he alleged that some folks, on behalf of the channel, carried out a sting operation on him.

They threatened to telecast the recording if he didn’t pay Rs 5 crore to them. The advocate additionally instructed the police that these folks additionally visited his workplace and tried to get particulars about his relations, a senior police officer stated.

A case was registered at Higher Kailash police station and investigation was taken up, the officer stated.

“Throughout investigation, Ali was arrested. It was revealed that he’s operating a digital information channel based mostly out of Noida,” senior police official Atul Kumar Thakur stated.
