US President Donald Trump, in a shock announcement, mentioned Thursday that Israel and the United Arab Emirates had reached a peace settlement.
The normalization of relations between the UAE and Israel is a “HUGE breakthrough” Trump tweeted, calling it a “Historic Peace Settlement between our two GREAT associates.”
Talking to reporters later, Trump recommended that extra diplomatic breakthroughs between Israel and its Muslim neighbors within the area had been anticipated.
“Issues are taking place that I can not speak about,” he mentioned.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo described it as “a historic day and a major step ahead for peace within the Center East.”
“The US hopes that this courageous step would be the first in a sequence of agreements that ends 72 years of hostilities within the area,” Pompeo mentioned.
In a joint assertion, Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan mentioned they’d spoken on Thursday “and agreed to the total normalization of relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.”
