New Delhi:
The Election Fee on Friday mentioned it’ll announce the schedule for holding by-elections to meeting and Lok Sabha seats at an “applicable time”.
57 bypolls to 56 meeting seats and one Lok Sabha constituency are due.
However the Fee didn’t specify whether or not the choice has been taken for all pending by-elections.
This announcement comes after the ballot panel determined to defer eight bypolls to seven meeting and one Lok Sabha seat citing floods and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The six-month deadline to carry these eight bypolls is ending on September 7.
The remaining 49 bypolls are due after September.
An EC spokesperson tweeted, “A choice to carry by-elections in meeting and parliamentary constituencies was taken by the Fee after a evaluation at present (on Friday).”
“The schedule and many others. shall be introduced at an applicable time,” the spokesperson mentioned with out specifying whether or not the choice pertained to all 57 bypolls or the eight deferred because of pandemic and floods.
