The electrical engineers of Northern Railway have constructed a battery-operated engine, which can be utilized for shunting operations. It’s constructed from the previous electrical locomotive engines at a price of Rs 5 lakhs in a month’s time.

Constructed from parts of the condemned electrical locomotive, the battery-operated engine would save roughly Rs four lakh spent on diesel per 30 days, Mr Swaroop mentioned.
“We’re utilizing the engine on a trial foundation. The Railway Board will talk about it and decide accordingly whether or not to make extra such engines or not. The battery-operated engine may obtain a most velocity of 15 kmph. We are able to shunt three locomotives in it,” he mentioned.
