4 undertrial prisoners escaped the sub-jail in Indore district of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday by scaling a 17-feet-wall, however had been captured by staffers and villagers after a chase, officers mentioned.

They reached the highest of the wall by climbing on the shoulders of one another, sub-divisional Justice of the Peace (SDM) Pratul Sinha mentioned.

Whereas they had been attempting to get away after climbing down the wall on the opposite facet, residents of the quarters for jail staffers and a few villagers raised an alarm.

The 4 had been then captured by jail warders with the assistance of the villagers, Mr Sinha added.

Earlier than climbing the wall, the 4 had tried to grab keys from a member of the jail workers, he mentioned.

Dipalpur Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Sanjay Chaturvedi mentioned a case has been filed in opposition to the undertrials, recognized as Vikas, Sanjay, Devkaran and Vinod.

The 4, aged between 20 and 25 years, are going through trial for allegedly kidnapping and killing a businessman in March, he added.
