Defending champion Rafael Nadal took one other step nearer to a 13th Roland Garros title on Wednesday with a 6-1, 6-Zero, 6-Three win over Mackenzie McDonald of america. Second seed Nadal claimed his 95th profession win on the event and subsequent faces both Kei Nishikori of Japan or Italy’s Stefano Travaglia. Nadal did not face a break level in Wednesday’s tie and hit 31 winners.
In the meantime, US Open winner Dominic Thiem too swept into the third spherical on Wednesday with a 6-1, 6-Three, 7-6 (eight/6) victory over American qualifier Jack Sock. The Austrian third seed will play Norway’s Casper Ruud, seeded 28th, or American Tommy Paul for a spot within the final 16 in Paris.
