Iranian champion wrestler Navid Afkari has been executed after being convicted of stabbing to dying a safety guard throughout anti-government protests in 2018, state media stated on Saturday.

Afkari was executed “this morning after authorized procedures had been carried out on the insistence of the mother and father and the household of the sufferer,” the media quoted the pinnacle of the justice division within the southern Fars province as saying.

The case had attracted worldwide outcry.

Afkari had stated he was tortured into making a false confession, in response to his household and activists, and his legal professional says there isn’t any proof of his guilt.

Iran’s judiciary has denied the torture claims.
