Jammu-Srinagar freeway obtained blocked at over a dozen locations between Udhampur and Banihal

The 270-km Jammu-Srinagar Nationwide Freeway reopened at this time after remaining closed for the previous two days owing to a number of landslides triggered by heavy rains, officers stated.

The freeway obtained blocked at over a dozen locations between Udhampur and Banihal on Thursday, leaving 1000’s of autos stranded.

“The freeway was cleared for one-way site visitors round 10 am… After clearance of the stranded autos, the site visitors can be allowed from Srinagar in the direction of Jammu,” Deputy Superintendent of Police, Nationwide Freeway, Ajay Anand instructed new company PTI.

Heavy rains lashed vast elements of Jammu and Kashmir over the previous two days, triggering landslides and capturing stones from hillocks overlooking the freeway at Panthiyal, Battery Cheshma, Monkey Morh, Mehar, Chanderkote, Sherbibi, Moum Passi, Ramsoo, Digdole, Kela Morh, Maroog and Trishul Morh.

“After hectic efforts by street clearance businesses, the street was opened to site visitors this morning, however steady capturing stones from the hills at Panthiyal and Monkey Morh triggered some delay,” the officer stated on Saturday.

He stated passenger autos and vehicles carrying important commodities to Kashmir had been cleared on precedence after restoration of the freeway amid enchancment in climate.

“The site visitors is shifting easily and we predict to permit site visitors from Kashmir in the direction of Jammu quickly,” he added.
