Hurricane Haishen, which is predicted to hit southwestern Japan within the subsequent few days, has prompted the nation’s army to place 22,000 troops on full alert, Japanese Defence Minister Taro Kono mentioned on Saturday.
“In case one thing occurs, 22,000 members of the self-defence forces are on full alert. The self-defence forces should collect all their power and be prepared for something,” Kono mentioned, as quoted by the NHK broadcaster.
Earlier within the day, Japan’s Meteorological Company mentioned that the hurricane could trigger excessive waves that may be corresponding to tsunamis.
Atmospheric strain in Haishen’s centre is 920 hectopascals, whereas its wind energy is 180 kilometres per hour and gusts are as much as 252 kilometres per hour.
Hurricane Haishen is predicted to hit Japan’s Kyushu island on September 6 and seven.
Almost 100 flights in southern and southwestern Japan had been cancelled on Saturday because of the approaching hurricane.
