The long-lasting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, which a UNESCO recognised world heritage web site and the largest railway terminal in Mumbai, is ready to get a makeover with world class services at a value of Rs 1,642 crore, officers stated on Monday.

Below the mission, the plan is to shift some railway workplaces from the premises to Byculla and Wadi Bunder yards, create extra pedestrian space and have an entry management system on the station, they stated.

The Indian Railway Stations Improvement Company (IRSDC) on August 20 invited the Request For Qualification (RFQ) for the redevelopment of the station by the general public personal partnership (PPP) mannequin.

The bidding course of can be achieved in two stages- RFQ and Request for Proposal (RFP).

“The chosen bidder on the RFP stage shall take up redevelopment of the railway station and business growth of the encircling railway land on leasehold foundation, as much as 60 years for business growth and as much as 99 years for residential growth on chosen plots, together with operation and upkeep of the station for 60 years on concession foundation,” a launch issued by IRSDC stated.

Below the mission, authorities have deliberate to demolish some current buildings within the CSMT premises and shift some railway workplaces to Byculla and Wadi Bunder yards, to create extra pedestrian space on the southern finish of the station.

Even the prevailing taxi stand can be shifted near the boundary wall adjoining the Saint George Hospital, officers stated.

Additionally, the Harbour line, which connects south Mumbai with western suburbs and Navi Mumbai, can be shifted to the P D’mello Street aspect on east of the principle line station on an elevated stage, they stated.

In line with IRSDC, the stations could have an entry management system and the passengers must pay a consumer charges, which the railway board will resolve in future.
