9 Maoists, together with 4 with complete reward of Rs 16 lakh, surrendered in Bijapur and Dantewada districts of Chhattisgarh’s Bastar division, the police stated on Saturday.
Two of them laid down arms in Bijapur whereas seven did so in Dantewada, an official stated.
“Makdam Deva (36), who surrendered in Bijapur, was an energetic member of Jagargunda-Basaguda space committee. He joined the outlawed outfit in 1995, and had a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head,” Inspector Common of Police (Bastar vary) Sundarraj P stated.
“Deva was concerned in a number of assaults on police groups, together with the Basaguda assault whereby two safety personnel have been killed, in addition to homicide of civilians within the space,” he added.
