A 36-year-old man, who tried to extort Rs 15 lakh from a businessman and was on the run since 2015, has been arrested from Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district, police stated on Saturday.

Vishnu had threatened businessman Pranab Seth that he would blow up his wedding ceremony corridor if he didn’t pay the Rs 15 lakh, they stated.

Police stated that Vishnu was declared a proclaimed offender within the case by a Delhi courtroom in 2015. He was arrested from his village in Rampur district on September four and police used technical surveillance to hint him, they stated.

Pranab Seth, a resident of Roop Nagar, in his criticism in 2015 had stated that he owns a marriage corridor close to Wave Cinema, a senior police officer stated.

In his criticism, the businessman had stated the accused had threatened that if the extortion cash of Rs 15 lakh was not paid, he would blow up his pandal, he stated. 

Police had registered a case underneath Indian Penal Code sections 384 (punishment for extortion) and 506 (prison intimidation).

The case was registered on the Rajouri Backyard Police Station.
