No exports to Bangladesh through the Petrapole border befell on Thursday attributable to an ongoing agitation by Bangladeshi merchants and their employees, demanding that India enable imports from the neighbouring nation.
The agitators, who started their stir on Wednesday blocking the entry of Indian vehicles for a number of hours, claimed that the border will stay sealed till India permits import.
“In the present day, there was nil export from India through Petrapole,” Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) Chairman (East) Sushil Patwari stated and sought the intervention of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee into the matter.
Some vehicles with perishable items diverted their cargo to Gojadanga, a smaller land port within the North 24 Parganas.
“Now we have not allowed any truck to enter Benapole. It will proceed till India resumes import of our items,” Benapole C&F Brokers Workers Affiliation secretary Sajidur Rehman stated.
Benapole is the place throughout the border from Petrapole.
“Our exporters and loads of employees related to exports are struggling attributable to delay from the Indian facet to permit shipments from us,” Mr Rehman stated.
West Bengal-based exporters have already sought Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s intervention into the matter.
“Indian producers, together with MSMEs, are working wanting important provides and uncooked supplies as imports should not allowed. Since Bangladesh has allowed entry of Indian items, it’s required to import their cargo to maintain the commerce stability transferring,” Mr Patwari stated in a letter to the chief minister.
