The phase-III human scientific trial of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Oxford College, and being manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII), will start on the Sassoon Basic Hospital in Pune subsequent week.
Dean of the state-run Sassoon Basic Hospital Dr Muralidhar Tambe informed this to PTI on Saturday.
“The phase-III trial of ”Covishield” vaccine will start at Sassoon hospital from subsequent week. It’s more likely to begin on Monday. Some volunteers have already come ahead for the trial. Round 150 to 200 volunteers might be administered the vaccine candidate dose,” he mentioned.
“From Saturday, the hospital began enrolling volunteers for the trial. Those that are prepared to volunteer for the vaccination ought to contact the hospital,” he mentioned.
Beneath phase-II, trials have been performed at Bharti Vidyapeeth Medical School and in addition KEM Hospital within the metropolis.
The SII has partnered with British-Swedish pharma firm AstraZeneca for manufacturing the COVID-19 vaccine candidate, developed by the College of Oxford.
Earlier this month, the SII had paused the scientific trials of the vaccine candidate within the nation.
