New Delhi:

President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday accepted the resignation of Meals Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who had resigned in protest towards three farm sector payments.

The Shiromani Akali Dal chief resigned on Thursday.

“The President of India, as suggested by the prime minister, has accepted the resignation of Harsimrat Kaur Badal from the Union Council of Ministers, with quick impact,” the Rashtrapati Bhavan mentioned in a press release.

Additional, as suggested by the prime minister, the president has directed that Cupboard Minister Narendra Singh Tomar be assigned the cost of the Ministry of Meals Processing Industries, along with his current portfolios, it mentioned.

Tomar holds a number of portfolios together with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Rural Improvement Ministry and the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.

“I’ve resigned from the Union Cupboard in protest towards anti-farmer ordinances and laws. Proud to face with farmers as their daughter and sister,” Badal tweeted, hours earlier than the payments had been handed by Lok Sabha.

Lok Sabha on Thursday handed the Farmers Produce Commerce and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Invoice and the Farmers (Empowerment and Safety) Settlement on Value Assurance and Farm Companies Invoice.

It has already handed Important Commodities (Modification) Invoice.
