Mumbai:

A 32-year-old homicide convict allegedly hanged himself at Nashik Central Jail in Maharashtra, the police mentioned on Thursday.

In his suicide notice, Asghar Ali Mansoori, the convict, accused jail employees of harassment.

The notice was recovered from his stomach throughout post-mortem, mentioned an official of the Nashik Street Police Station.

Sentenced to life in a homicide case, Mansoori was discovered hanging in his cell on October 7. The suicide notice, wrapped in polythene, was recovered from his stomach throughout post-mortem, the official mentioned.

He was nearing the completion of his time period and was given the duty of warder to help jail employees.

As per the suicide notice, he was being harassed by the jail employees and never allowed to work as a warder in the previous few days.

“We’re conducting enquiry into the allegations,” the police official mentioned.

Mansoori couldn’t learn and write, so someone should have helped him write the notice, the official mentioned. Jail officers denied the allegations within the notice, he added.

After Mansoori’s loss of life, different inmates wrote a letter to greater authorities, in search of FIR for abetment of suicide in opposition to the employees named within the suicide notice, he mentioned, including that additional probe was on.
