Backing Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s demand for reservation of seats for Different Backward Class (OBC) college students in medical establishments within the states and union territories below the nationwide quota within the Nationwide Eligibility cum Entrance Check (NEET), her daughter and Congress Common Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra immediately stated the demand is professional and would guarantee social justice.
Taking to Twitter, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra wrote in Hindi, “Congress President Sonia Gandhi has raised the professional demand for reservation for OBC college students in medical establishments within the states and union territories below the nationwide quota within the seats being stuffed by NEET. It is a demand for social justice. I hope that the Central Authorities will implement this.”

On Friday, Sonia Gandhi wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding reservation for college students from different backward lessons in state medical schools below the All India Quota of NEET — the nation’s sole entrance examination for undergraduate medical and dental college students. She stated OBC college students have misplaced 11,000 seats since 2017 as a result of denial of reservation.
“I wish to carry to your consideration, denial of reservation for OBC candidates below All-India Quota being stuffed by Nationwide Eligibility cum Entrance Check (NEET), in State/UT Medical training establishments,” she wrote within the letter.
“Beneath the All India Quota, 15%, 7.5% and 10% seats are reserved for SC (scheduled caste), ST (scheduled tribes) and Economically Weaker Part candidates respectively, in each Central and State/UT Medical training establishments. Nonetheless, reservation for OBC candidates below All India Quota is restricted to Central Establishments,” she added.
Sonia Gandhi stated the denial of reservation to OBC college students in state medical establishments is a barrier to entry of medical training for deserving candidates.
“Within the curiosity of fairness and social justice, I strongly urge the Union Authorities to increase reservation for OBC candidates in All India Quota of medical and dental seats, even within the State/UT Medical training establishments”.
The All India Quota seats comprise 15 per cent of all MBBS seats and 50 per cent of PG medical seats surrendered by state governments to the Centre. College students from all throughout the nation can apply for the reservation.
Replying to litigation by political events from Tamil Nadu, the Center last month informed the Madras High Court that it was unlikely to confess Different Backward Lessons (OBC) college students below All India Quota in all authorities establishments until the Supreme Courtroom comprehensively settles the pending problem.
The NEET examination, scheduled to be held in Could, was deferred due to the coronavirus pandemic and the nationwide lockdown. It has been rescheduled September.
Training Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Thursday stated committee consisting of the Director-Common Nationwide Testing Company (NTA) and different consultants will give its suggestions to the ministry by Friday following requests to postpone JEE and NEET exams.
