Famous filmmaker Shekhar Kapur was, on Tuesday, appointed president of the Pune-based Movie and Tv Institute of India (FTII) Society and chairman of the institute’s governing council, an official mentioned. FTII Director Bhupendra Kainthola mentioned Shekhar Kapur’s appointment was introduced by the Union Ministry of Data and Broadcasting. The 74-year-old filmmaker’s tenure will likely be until March three, 2023, the official mentioned. Born on December 6, 1945 at Lahore in Pakistan, the critically acclaimed director and actor is thought for movies like Elizabeth (1998), Bandit Queen (1994) and The 4 Feathers (2002).
Shekhar Kapur directed the 1983 movie Masoom, starring Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi and Urmila Matondkar.
Data and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar tweeted, “Pleased to tell that famend worldwide movie persona Shekhar Kapur has been appointed because the President of FTII Society and Chairman of Governing Council of FTII. Kapur, who has huge expertise, will add extra worth to the institute. I’m positive all people will welcome his appointment,” he added.
“The Authorities of India nominates Shri Shekhar Kapur as President if FTII Society and Chairman of Governing Council of FTII until March three, 2023,” mentioned the order of I&B ministry, tweeted by Prakash Javadekar.
After Bollywood actor Anupam Kher resigned because the chairman of the premier institute in October 2018, B P Singh, producer-director of standard TV serial CID, was named president of FTII Society and Chairman of Governing Council in December 2018.
