A 48-year-old girl was allegedly raped and assaulted by a driver on Wednesday in Tripura, resulting in locals blocking highway in protest. The survivor and a few villagers gathered at a police station in western Tripura’s Sepahijala district, demanding the arrest of the accused.

Inside hours, the 28-year-old accused, who had a rap sheet in crimes towards ladies, was arrested whereas a mob set his home on fireplace.

Police mentioned the survivor, a married girl who works in a rubber plantation close to her home, was coming back from work when the accused kidnapped her.

She alleged he took her to a jungle the place he allegedly raped her after which tried to kill her.

Some folks on listening to her scream rescued her, however the accused managed to run away, the police mentioned, quoting the girl’s assertion.

A case has been filed. The lady was injured on her again and toes.

On returning residence, she informed her husband in regards to the assault, after which villagers gathered and blocked Melaghar-Udaipur highway, demanding quick arrest of the accused.
