A priest in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda, round 117 km from state capital Lucknow, is reported to be in vital situation after he was shot by unknown males final evening allegedly over land dispute.

Samrat Das, who serves on the Ram Janki temple within the district, was shot on the temple premises late within the evening, officers stated. The priest, who’s reported to be vital, has been referred to a hospital in Lucknow.

That is the second reported case of assault on a priest over temple land.

On Thursday, a priest in Rajasthan died due to burn injuries after he was attacked by a gaggle of males over a land dispute. The Rajasthan priest was cremated solely on Saturday after his household relented and allowed the final rites to be carried out.
