US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo Tuesday warned Beijing of latest countermeasures following what he referred to as a “unhappy day,” as China imposed a sweeping nationwide safety legislation on Hong Kong.

“In the present day marks a tragic day for Hong Kong, and for freedom-loving folks throughout China,” Pompeo stated in an announcement.

“Per President (Donald) Trump’s instruction, we are going to get rid of coverage exemptions that give Hong Kong completely different and particular therapy, with few exceptions,” he stated.

“The USA is not going to stand idly by whereas China swallows Hong Kong into its authoritarian maw,” he warned.
