Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu has requested chairpersons and members of parliamentary standing committees to chorus from offering to the media confidential data associated to panel conferences.
In a letter to the panel chiefs, Mr Naidu stated it has been noticed that the media has been quoting of their reportage the proceedings of the committees associated to the topic issues or the legislative payments beneath their consideration and examination.
“As you’re conscious, the proceedings of the Committee conferences are confidential and it’s not permissible for a Member of the Committee or anybody who has entry to its proceedings to speak, immediately or not directly to the media any data concerning its proceedings, together with any a part of the report or any conclusions arrived at by the Committee, lastly or tentatively earlier than the report has been offered to the Home, as such motion tantamount to breach of privilege of the Home,” Mr Naidu stated within the letter.
His motion got here days after Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla wrote an identical letter to chairpersons of parliamentary standing committees asking them to make sure confidentiality of the panel conferences.
“I urge upon you to impress upon the Members of the Parliament belonging to your Committee and taking part within the proceedings to strictly adhere to the prevailing provisions/course referring to confidentiality and chorus from untimely divulgence of any data to the media, until the Stories are offered to the Home,” Mr Naidu stated.
The letter assumes significance because the chairmen of each Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and Parliamentary Standing Committee on Info Know-how, who’re from the Congress get together, had been at loggerheads with the BJP members of the panels over number of the themes for committee conferences.
The members of the ruling get together have alleged that the Congress chairpersons made these topics public for media consideration earlier than discussing them with the committee.
