Russian opposition chief Alexei Navalny stated on Monday that German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited him at a Berlin hospital the place he was handled after being poisoned with a military-grade nerve agent.
“I’m very grateful to Chancellor Merkel for visiting me on the hospital,” the anti-corruption campaigner wrote on Twitter following stories of the assembly in German media.
The 44-year-old Kremlin critic was discharged from Charite hospital in Berlin final week after receiving therapy over a number of weeks for publicity to Novichok.
He fell ailing on a flight from Siberia to Moscow in August in what his allies say was a state-sanctioned assault — labs in France, Germany and Sweden confirmed he had been poisoned.
German journal Der Spiegel reported on Sunday that Merkel had visited Navalny in what it described as a “secret” assembly at Charite hospital that underscored the Chancellor’s private dedication to Navalny’s case.
Navalny confirmed the assembly however argued the label “secret” was not correct, saying: “Somewhat, a personal assembly and dialog with the household.”
The Kremlin has denied allegations of involvement within the poisoning and accused Western leaders of launching a disinformation marketing campaign over the opposition chief’s sickness.
Russia insists medical exams carried out by docs in Omsk discovered no poison in Navalny’s physique. It says it lacks grounds for a legal investigation, regardless of worldwide requires a clear probe.
Navalny’s spokesperson Kira Yarmysh has stated the Kremlin critic plans to return to Russia however will stay in Germany till he has recovered.
