Manama, Bahrain:

A girl in Bahrain seen desecrating idols of Lord Ganesha in a video revealed on-line has been charged with intentional harm and publicly insulting a spiritual image.

The police stated on Sunday that the 54-year-old girl was summoned after the video on social media confirmed her “deliberately damaging a store… and breaking spiritual idols” within the Juffair space within the capital Manama, in response to the inside ministry.

Shortly after, the general public prosecution issued a press release saying the lady had admitted to desecrating the idols and was charged with a number of counts of felony harm and of insulting a spiritual image.

She might be tried in courtroom, it added.

The video reveals two ladies in a store, standing close to a show of the idols.

The incident sparked widespread condemnation on social media.

Khalid al-Khalifa, advisor to the king of Bahrain and former overseas minister, stated the lady’s actions had been unacceptable.

“Breaking of non secular symbols is just not the character of the individuals of Bahrain. It’s a crime… of hatred and is rejected,” he tweeted.

“Right here, all religions, sects and other people coexist.”
