French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Tuesday it was not his place to cross judgment on the choice by satirical journal Charlie Hebdo to re-publish cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad, saying France has freedom of expression.
However Macron, talking on a go to to Lebanon, stated it was incumbent on French residents to indicate civility and respect for one another, and keep away from a “dialogue of hate.”
The journal re-published the cartoons on the eve of a trial in Paris of alleged accomplices in a 2015 assault on the journal’s workplaces by Islamist terrorists gunmen through which 12 individuals had been killed.
After they had been first revealed by Charlie Hebdo and different publications, the cartoons unleashed a wave of anger within the Muslim world. For Muslims, any depiction of the Prophet is blasphemous.
